Settings

The Settings page lets you fine-tune how Vibebun Image Optimizer processes your images. All settings are per-shop — each store can have its own configuration.

Navigate to Settings in the sidebar to access these options.

Image optimization

Target file size (KB)

• Default: 400
• Range: 50–5,000

Images larger than this target will be compressed iteratively. The app keeps compressing until the image is under this size or the iteration budget is exhausted.

Guidance: 400 KB is a good balance for most stores. Lower values (100–200 KB) produce smaller files but may reduce visual quality. Higher values (500–1,000 KB) preserve more detail but offer less compression.

Initial quality (%)

• Default: 80
• Range: 10–100

The starting quality level for compression. The quality decreases with each iteration to progressively shrink the file.

Guidance: 80% is a good default — most viewers can’t distinguish 80% quality from the original. If your images look too compressed, increase to 85–90%. For aggressive compression, try 60–70%.

Max iterations

• Default: 5
• Range: 1–20

The maximum number of compression attempts before the app stops trying. Each iteration uses a lower quality level than the previous one.

Guidance: 5 iterations is sufficient for most images. Increase to 10–15 only if you’re targeting very small file sizes and are willing to accept more processing time.

Max dimension (px)

• Default: 2,048
• Range: 512–4,096

Product images are resized to fit within this bounding box (width and height), preserving aspect ratio. Media-library images are not resized.

Guidance: 2048 px is the standard for high-DPI product images. Most Shopify themes display product images at 1000–1500 px, so 2048 px provides crisp rendering on retina screens without excess file size.

AI alt text

Language

• Default: English

The language used for AI-generated alt text. Choose the language that matches your store’s primary audience.

Supported languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Russian, Ukrainian.

Max alt-text length

• Default: 125
• Range: 50–500

The maximum character length for AI-generated alt text. The AI model will keep its description within this limit.

Guidance: 125 characters is a widely recommended length for alt text — long enough to be descriptive, short enough to be practical for screen readers. Increase for more detailed descriptions if your SEO strategy requires it.

Saving settings

After adjusting any settings, click the Save button in the top right corner. You’ll see a confirmation toast when settings are saved successfully.

Settings take effect immediately for all subsequent optimizations and AI requests. Previously optimized images are not re-processed — they keep the settings that were active when they were optimized.
