Image Browser

The image browser is where you view, filter, and take action on your store’s images.

The image browser has two separate tabs:

  • Product Images — images attached to your Shopify products
  • Media Images — standalone files from Shopify’s media library (file manager)

Each tab has its own Fetch Images button. Click it to load or refresh the images for that tab. Product images and media images are tracked separately because Shopify’s API exposes them differently.

Toggle between two view modes:

  • Grid view — shows image thumbnails in a responsive grid layout
  • List view — shows images in a detailed table with filename, alt text, dimensions, file size, and status

Use the filter bar to narrow down your image list:

FilterShows
AllEvery image in the current tab
Over target KBImages larger than your configured target file size
Non-OptimizedImages that haven’t been optimized yet
OptimizedImages that have been successfully compressed
Rolled backImages that were optimized and then rolled back to original
ExpiredImages whose rollback originals have expired

Use the search field to find images by:

  • Source URL — matches against the Shopify CDN URL
  • Alt text — matches against the image’s alt text
  • Product title — (product images only) matches against the owning product’s title

Search is case-insensitive and matches partial strings.

Sort images by file size (largest first or smallest first) to quickly identify the biggest optimization opportunities.

Images are displayed 50 per page. Use the pagination controls at the bottom to navigate between pages.

Each image row/card shows:

  • Thumbnail — a preview of the image
  • Filename — the original filename
  • Alt text — current alt text (editable)
  • Dimensions — width × height in pixels
  • File size — current file size
  • Status — optimization state (e.g., “Optimized”, “Rolled back”)
  • Savings — if optimized, shows the before/after comparison (e.g., “3.37 MB → 344 KB, saved 90%“)

Each image has action buttons depending on its current state:

  • Optimize — compress the image (available for non-optimized and rolled-back images)
  • Rollback — restore the original image (available for optimized images)
  • Edit alt — open the inline alt-text editor with save/cancel and AI suggest

See the dedicated guides for more details on optimizing, rollback, and AI alt text.
